CAPMED HEALTH operates in an environment of total transparency and accountability using the latest technology in an open standard manner to ensure management, accountability, reporting and the most effective product sourcing & logistics, using existing best-in-class technology products and services.

CAPMED HEALTH was founded by Martiens Bester, previously a Magistrate & Head of Office in South Africa and acting assistant Registrar for Medical Schemes in South Africa for a 5 year period. The release of CAPMED HEALTH has been significantly delayed due to a long running battle between The Council for Medical Schemes and Guardrisk Insurance Company, a subsidiary of Alexander Forbes over the demarcation between medical schemes and the short term insurance sector.

The case revolved around the interpretation in the Medical Schemes Act of doing business of a medical scheme. The definition of a medical scheme and the council's interpretation of it, was used by the counsil, which is the statutory regulator of medical schemes to stop the insurance industry designing and selling products which the counsil believed could undermine the medical scheme industry.

A full bench in the Appeal Court overturned a High Court ruling that previously favoured The Council for Medical Schemes. This ruling, has now enabled CAPMED HEALTH to finally launch this very overdue and in-demand product to the public. CAPMED has positioned itself as the number 1 player in this market. The product is underwritten by Hollard, in association with the Imperial. In addition, CAPMED's partners include top service providers such as the Medi-Clinic Group, ER24 and Faranani to provide our clients with a top quality holistic solution.
